Tuxes

February 22nd, 2010

We went to Nathan’s this afternoon for Jason to be fitted for his tux and to get the ball rolling for the groomsmen and Jason’s Dad. We got a different person this time around who was very helpful. Jason’s friend Sam was able to meet us there and get fitted which made things easier, but the others either live in TX or NC and so we needed a bit more information than we thought. I also need to bring Noah in to get fitted for his suit. :o) He’s going to be so cute! I wanna say that’s pretty much the last of the major decisions. It’s down to just a few details with less than five weeks to go.

We have made one (costly) change. We will be cutting the DJ. Since the wedding is in the morning and most of the people invited are NOT dancers (us included) we feel that it is a bit of overkill to have a full on DJ. We will be using an iPod instead for background music. This will save us about $800 since I will be returning my reception dress. I will not need another and we also won’t need the dance lessons we had planned. So, DJ? Uncheck.

I’m trying to keep my Bridezilla-like tendencies under control. During the fitting I got a few looks from both Jason and the tux guy which were like, “ookkkaaay”, when I told Jason that Nathan could not wear his black dress shoes with his tan tux. *WHAT!?* The menz are gonna kill me with their fashion sense and practicality. Here is my rant- Weddings in general are impractical. All this money on a party? One day? A memory? Yes, I tell you! It is worth it! MUAHAHAHAAHAHAAA!!!

Mmkay? kthxbai.

Invitations!

February 18th, 2010

I got them-they’re beautiful! I LOVE them!! I hope you do too! They went out in the mail yesterday, so hopefully some of you have already received them! I think the invites have been my favorite part of planning the wedding! :o)

Trees

February 14th, 2010

This Thursday coming up I will be picking out trees for the ballroom. I never knew you could rent trees, let alone for so cheap, but they are the perfect solution to unsightly things like A/C controls and slots for doorways. I will need to decide if I want some sort of palm things or ficus’ with white lights throughout. I guess I’ll see when I get there.

I talked to Tim this evening about the wedding ceremony. Tim is our Pastor who will be performing the ceremony. He is pretty much amiable to whatever we want, it’s just that we aren’t totally sure what it is that we want. We do know (as always) what we don’t want. It’s a start, I guess.

As the day approaches and things like surprise showers and details fall into place, I am getting equally nervous and excited. Nervous because it is a huge decision to tether your hitch to someone. What if he becomes dead weight? It is very different this time around for me, not only because I know the seriousness of the commitment, but because I feel the excitement of the possibilities and the peace of being fully present and making a choice. Jason and I accept each other as well as we can and hope to be able to endure what life throws at us, while dreaming small dreams like that of a larger family and building a home.

I wonder if I can talk him into writing our own vows?

All Day Preparations

February 8th, 2010

Last Thursday I set a few appointments. At 11am I met with the flower lady one last time to go over the final details. She was very helpful in telling me funny stories of brides who had the power go out in the middle of the Bridal March. *nervous laughter* It helped me to relax about needing to have everything perfect because I was become a bit of freak about details.

Our next appointment (Jason would be joining me) was with Ryan at the Terrace. This would be the big one. We were laying down the timeline and picking the food. We did just that sitting in the Lake Mirror Room where we will be saying our vows. We decided on a mostly breakfast brunch and we’ll be having a champagne buffet too; that’s the only way I can describe it! Mimosas and something with raspberries and champagne punch, yum! It felt so good to get it all written down and finalized. I got all of my lingering questions answered and Jason and I were on the same page (finally).

After the Terrace we met with Tina at Fresco’s. She will be making a beautiful cake and we found a very cute topper! I can’t wait for you all to see it!

Our last appointment was with Aimee Reed our photographer. We had our engagement photo session and it was so much fun! We met downtown and got some great shots around the Terrace and Munn Park. Jason was really hamming it up by being all lovey-dovey on me. Aimee was definitely encouraging him as he spun me around at one point and pressed me against the brick wall of Nathan’s for a smooch! The crowd at Palace Pizza certainly enjoyed it, hootin’ and hollerin’ their approval. I was so embarrassed. He has no problem what so ever with public displays of affection. WHo knows what he’ll do at the wedding!

Here’s the sneak peek we got of our shoot:

Invitations

January 22nd, 2010

I originally was having a good friend design our invitations, but they weren’t coming out right and the wedding is coming up so soon-I had to act fast!

I love etsy and a friend suggested I peruse what they had in store for wedding invitations. Well, lo and behold, there is a plethora of invitations in all shapes and designs! I REALLLY wanted letterpress. It is so beautiful! I thought it would be out of my price range, but not so with etsy. :o) I went through so many invitations looking at anything that could easily be changed to incorporate my colors or just resonated the theme I am going for and came up with about twenty options. I looked those over with Jason (who could care less btw, but it is his wedding too) who narrowed it down to three (none of which was my favorite). Sigh. So, I emailed my girls for some much needed input and they didn’t let me down!

I wish I could show you which one we picked, but it will be a surprise! Yay! Needless to say I have been emailing back and forth with the person getting and giving information. It has been a process, but it has also been fun and exciting! I just look at it and go…yes…this is it. That’s always nice. ;o)

Update:
Jason talked me out of letterpress, but they will still be beautiful!

Jason

January 14th, 2010

Jason

This is the man I am going to marry.

I love this pic of him taken on our recent trip to Pennsylvania. He has a light dusting of snow on his jacket and his beard is grown out way past what I call mountain man to grizzly man. He is listening intently to instruction on how to do a proper 360 on a four wheeler.

He is a good listener. How did I get so lucky? ;o)

The Dress Fits

January 14th, 2010

My aunt and I went to Robyn Lynne today to try on the bridesmaids dress she ordered a few months ago. We finally got to see THE dress in THE color we picked! It is so very pretty! I really like the dress and I think it is very flattering. My aunt looks beautiful in it and I hope she feels beautiful too. I can’t wait to see how pretty the girls will look walking down the aisle in the room with the enormous windows and natural light! It’s going to be wonderful. :o)

Linens? Check!

January 7th, 2010

So… I had an appointment with Ryan today at the Terrace and he brings out this HUGE swatch book to look through. There was some hideous tablecloths in there, but also some really neat things like Pintuck and Buttons! I have never chosen linens for any event, so I was a bit intimidated. After pulling out all the samples I liked he allowed me to go into the ballroom to mull things over.

It was so much easier to just sit there by myself, picking and choosing, especially being in the room with the same lighting because lighting does crazy things to color. I finally settled on simplicity and I think it will be beautiful! Everything is coming together in my mind. I chose to do a different tablecloth for the cake table. It will be a fabulous Taffeta in the color Avocado. I couldn’t resist a little Taffeta!

I was telling Ryan about the herb favors I have in mind and he literally told me to Shut..up. lol I love it! I can’t rave about Ryan enough he has certainly found his calling.

At this point we are down to the details which are the accessories and the Timeline and of course continuing to pay for it all. Jason still has to get his tux and I have a Bridal show this Sunday that will hopefully help with that. My goodness time is flying now!

Linens!

January 6th, 2010

Mmkay, the holidays are over and I can now focus on the wedding! Three months to go…er less than… *wincing*

Next on the to do list is linens. I wasn’t completely sure of the size of the tables and was wondering if we could do long tables instead, so I called up Ryan at the Terrace who is always super helpful and he did not fail me. We had talked about using ivory linens instead of white and I found out that he uses Connie Duglin for their linens. I had been looking at Connie Duglin, but didn’t know anyone who uses them, so was unsure, but Ryan just raved about the company and how the linens arrive perfectly pressed via fedex. The best part is that if I go through him he takes care of getting the linens put on the tables and given back to the linen company after the wedding! One less thing and no upcharge. Also, he has a swatch book that I get to leaf through and pick out my linens without ever having to travel to the linen warehouse. I have an appointment with Ryan on Thursday and I am super excited!

Hopefully he will have some great suggestions because I am a little bit intimidated. I know he will!

Nightmares

December 26th, 2009

I keep having this recurring nightmare. I’m at the Terrace in my wedding dress and I look at the time. It’s 10am! The wedding is starting and I haven’t done the favors, or the tags. There is no music playing or ready for us to walk down the aisle! …and then I wake up. Sigh. I hope I get it all done in time.
